Makerere University Private Sector Forum (MUPSF) was set up to bridge the University-Industry divide in human development. Therefore a platform for matching the intellectual resources of the University for the benefit and growth of the industry and; a vehicle for Academia-Public-Private Sector interface in promoting competitiveness.

Mission
To facilitate and coordinate a strong and vibrant partnership between Makerere University faculties and the Private Sector institutions and enterprises to improve Private Sector competitiveness and national social economic development.

The Rationale
Makerere University has for a long time worked in isolation and lacked the institutional framework to link with its clients. As a result most research work that would benefit the public has remained on the shelves and producing graduates that are highly qualified but not suitable for the job market

Our Objectives and Mandate
a. To promote demand driven skills at the University;
b. To encourage the public/private sector utilisation of the University intellectual resources in human development.
c. To promote/private sector participation in University activities;
d. To promote joint research, technology innovation and transfer
e. To promote a strong and vibrant public, private sector partnership in human development

Our Mandate
To build Knowledge Transfer Partnerships; Increase Public/Private Sector participation in the University policy agenda and promoting a Competitive edge in academia, public and private sectors. MUPSF mandate is within Makerere’s ten year strategic plan (2009-19) of transforming the University into a research and innovations led institution in Africa. It is enhanced by the December 2006 Munyonyo Declaration ratified by both the University and the Private Sector representatives.

What we do
We build Partnerships, Knowledge Management and transfer, Internships and Networking, Policy Analysis,
Consultancy services, Research and innovations promotion. Our focus is on education, health, local authorities, finance, ICT, business and service industry, manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure development and youth unemployment among others.

How we work
We encourage stakeholder participation at every stage of our activities ranging from idea generation, project design, proposal
development, product packaging, product marketing and product delivery. We as much as possible encourage partnerships, knowledge sharing etc

Facilities
A resource pool of intellectuals, a meeting place for networking,international linkages and collaboration, skilled labour, students and a conducive working environment and a strategic location.

Our Structure
a) MUPSF has the founder Trustees Board chaired by Prof. E. Tumusiime-Mutebile, Governor, Bank of Uganda while the Secretariat is headed by the Founder Executive Director.
b) Trustees are the backbone of the three pillars i.e. the University Council, Private and Public Sectors. The Board is responsible for Policy formation and reforms etc. It is comprised of Makerere University, Public and Private Sector membership.
c) MUPSF Trustees relate with Makerere at Council level while the Joint Advisory Council (JAC) relate with Makerere

d) Senate level. JAC is an organ which shall comprise of representatives of different Functional Networks by sector. This is a responsibility of the Board.
